How astrocartography works
At the moment you were born, each planet stood at a precise angle to the place you were born in — rising, setting, overhead, or underfoot. Move the birthplace and those angles change. Astrocartography runs that calculation for the whole planet at once: for every point on Earth, it asks which of your planets would have been exactly on an angle there, and draws the answer as lines on the map.
Living on or near a line does not change your chart. It changes which part of your chart the place keeps handing you. People tend to describe it as a volume knob: the planet was always yours; near its line, it is louder.
How to read your map
The four angles
Every planet draws four lines, one per angle. AC (rising) colors how you show up and how the place meets you. MC (midheaven) colors work, direction, and visibility. IC sits at the base of the sky — home, roots, retreat. DC (setting) colors who you attract and what relationships carry there.
The planets
Sun lines bring vitality and being seen. Moon lines turn the feeling life up. Mercury sharpens exchange — writing, trade, conversation. Venus softens a place toward pleasure, beauty, and relating. Mars adds drive with an edge. Jupiter expands what you touch there, and Saturn structures it — the classic line for discipline, and the one most worth respecting before you sign a lease under it.
Distance is the dose
A line is strongest underneath itself and fades with distance. The map above ranks your lines from wherever you live or are considering: under about 100 km reads as on the line, under 400 km as close, under 700 km as in range. Beyond that a line still exists, the way a distant radio station still exists.
The honest limits
Astrocartography is one lens, and it is only as precise as your birth time. It will not choose a city for you, and a good Jupiter line does not overrule visa law, income, or the people you love. Read it the way it works best: as one map among the five you carry — alongside your Human Design, your Gene Keys, and your astrology — and let the places you are actually drawn to have a vote. Common questions
Is this astrocartography chart really free?
Yes. The map is computed from your birth data with a real ephemeris and shown in full — every line, ranked by distance from where you live. Signing in saves it to your account, and the same account carries your whole chart: Human Design, the Gene Keys, Western and Vedic astrology, and the Enneagram.
Do I need my exact birth time?
For astrocartography, yes — more than for almost any other chart. The lines are drawn from the angles of your birth sky, and the angles move roughly one degree every four minutes. A birth certificate time is ideal. If your time is approximate, treat lines within a few hundred kilometers as equally live.
What is the difference between astrocartography and a natal chart?
A natal chart reads your birth sky from one place: where you were born. Astrocartography asks how that same sky would sit if you stood somewhere else, and draws the answer as lines on the world map. Same planets, same moment — the variable is where you are standing.
Which lines matter most for deciding where to live?
Start with the slow, structural planets and the strongest angles: Sun and Jupiter lines for vitality and growth, Saturn for discipline that can tip into weight, Venus for ease and relationship. An MC line colors your work life, an AC line colors how you meet the place. Distance matters — a line 2,000 km away is background, a line under 100 km is the weather.
